Designer Spotlight: Charlotte Taylor

I first became aware of Charlotte Taylor through Young British Designers (http://www.youngbritishdesigners.co.uk), a site that highlights up and coming design talent. Her whimsical prints and bold use of color immediately caught my eye so I was thrilled to hear of her collaboration with Anthropologie. While dresses from her main collection start at £370, this high street capsule line is priced more reasonably and is in keeping with her current vision of Japanese art, fishing and beekeeping (never thought those would go together but she’s the designer!). Normally, I wouldn’t recommend any item of clothing with a donkey print but this adorable shift dress below has changed my mind. If donkies aren’t your thing, check out the angular grasshopper prints which lend a slightly retro feel to otherwise basic silhouettes. In fact, I actually had to look at the items carefully to notice the grasshoppers as the design is quite geometrical in look.

How to glam up a t-shirt: Tribal

In the second part of my series on how to accessorize a basic shirt (view part 1 here: http://wp.me/p1gaON-Pe), I’ve focused on the ubiquitous tribal trend. There are many ways to run with this look including Masai beaded bracelets, Aztec pyramid rings and even neon rope necklaces but I particularly like the slightly edgier, almost industrial design of NeverMidnight and Merle O’Grady’s pieces.

Do you have the blues?

Every magazine I’ve read recently has extolled the virtues of blue (or blue and green) jewelry which is convenient since it happens to be my favorite color. I’ve even devoted an entire board on Pinterest to all things blue ( http://pinterest.com/lifestylegoldie/my-favorite-color-is-blue/). From turquoise to royal blue, it’s easy to find a suitable piece but if you only buy one thing this season, I suggest the Kenneth Jay Lane statement earrings below as they make even the simplest outfit pop. Plus, they’ve already been re-pinned 68 times in 12 hours so if you use social media to judge popularity, these earrings have the “it” factor!
