British heritage brands

As the Poppy Appeal is in full bloom and the UK is gearing up to salute its war heroes, I’ve gone all patriotic towards my adopted country. For those who don’t know, the Royal British Legion adopted the Poppy Appeal in 1921 inspired by the poem In Flanders’ Field written by a Canadian medic who noted that only poppies grew in the fields of France and Belgium after the devastation of WWI. The money raised goes towards the care of current servicepeople and their families and the poppy itself remains a symbol of those who lost their lives serving in the armed forces. A very worthy cause – more information here: http://www.britishlegion.org.uk/about-us/history-of-the-poppy-appeal.

So in honor of all that’s British, I’ve chosen the best of the heritage brands: Burberry, Aquascutum, Barbour, Hunter and Pringle of Scotland. Beautiful and functional – now all we need to do is take a staycation to the English countryside :)

Faux fur revival

One of the biggest and most wearable trends of A/W ’11 so far is faux fur coats. Easy on the conscience and super cozy on cold winter days, there are many excellent options available from the expensive labels (found at Net-a-Porter) as well as the high street (Topshop) but the ones below by Juicy Couture and Tibi rank amongst the best!

The bib necklace you need…yes really!

I’m always on the hunt for unique pieces of jewelry because the right ones can lift a boring ensemble and become conversation starters in their own regard. In my experience, I’ve found that vintage cocktail rings (especially worn during the day) and large cuffs have the desired effect; however, I’ve just discovered a new addition. The Marni necklaces below found at The Outnet (THE OUTNET | Discount Designer Fashion Outlet – Deals up to 70% Off) are amazing not only due to the intricate woven design but for the autumnal colors that will lift any monochrome shirt into semi-couture status! Given the 70% discount - not sure they’re worth £295 honestly despite my love - be sure to snap them up before the inevitable sell out.
