Miracle product: Organix moroccan argan oil

I’ve been traveling alot by plane recently and I found that not only did my skin suffer from the flights but my hair felt much drier and coarser than usual. Although I color treat my hair religiously every 6 weeks, I go easy on styling products and don’t blowdry more often than necessary so usually I have few complaints in this department; however, I decided to do a little research. As a result, I found that my hair care routine needed updating because the sulfates (Sodium Lauryl) in the shampoo and conditioner I’ve been using has a drying effect which is already exacerbated by the dyeing process.  Apparently, the sulfates are added purely to increase the foaminess or lather of the product and have no real benefit in terms of cleansing. Haircare companies are increasingly sensitive to the rise in consumer awareness regarding chemicals so sulfate free shampoos are available from the likes of L’Oreal and Pureology (the latter is specifically geared toward color treated hair).

With that issue settled (I highly recommend the Pureology range), I moved on to finding a mask that I could use a few times a week to restore my hair’s softness immediately. While perusing Target on a recent trip back to the U.S., I came across Organix moroccan argan oil, a natural product billed as an intensive moisturizing treatment. Argan oil has been used for centuries in both haircare and skincare to maintain softness as it contains vitamin E and other antioxidants so I decided to give this a go. Honestly, I’m nothing less than amazed. At $7.99, this treatment did what far more expensive alternatives (e.g. Frederic Fekkai, John Frieda) couldn’t which is to bring back the bounce! My hair feels much lighter and the tangles brought on by dryness disappeared after only one use. Plus, it’s safe to use on color treated hair so I don’t need to worry about fading. I’m not sure whether I’d use it after every shampoo since even natural products may cause build-up but I highly recommend the Organix range for doing what it says on the tin (as they say in the UK!)

Organix moroccan argan oil is widely available in the U.S. at pharmacies, foodstores and mass retailers (for a list, click here: http://www.organixhair.com/find-us#) In the U.K., try Boots or have it delivered from Amazon.

Jean Queen lipstick: a review

While browsing the Space NK website, as I’m wont to do, I came across the Jean Queen lipstick formulated by Poppy, aka the Lipstick Queen, from Australia. This woman’s story is amazing as she started developing lipsticks from an early age and was able to parlay her success into an international make-up brand. While the other products in her range looked tempting, especially the Sinner 90 Percent Pigment color which I imagine must be the most opaque lipstick available, I was curious about the Jean Queen because it’s made specifically to complement denim. According to the description, the lipstick is made with “the right amount of matt and shine making lips contrast with the matt appearance of denim”. While I don’t understand the science behind this statement, the satiny pink color looked pretty enough so I ordered it.

Usually not a lipstick person as I hate having to constantly reapply, I must say that I’m smitten with the Jean Queen. The color is a very flattering pink which brings out the natural rosiness of your lips. Plus, the consistency is perfect as it’s not gloopy like a gloss nor high intensity necessitating the dreaded mirror checks. While it’s not terribly long-lasting, I almost forget I’ve put it on which is exactly what I want from a lipstick! Here is a pic of me wearing Jean Queen as well as the Space NK link.

Lash Perfect review

After reading an article in the latest Marie Claire UK in which the author raves about her experience with lash extensions, I decided to pay a visit to the Lash Perfect bar near Carnaby Street myself. I’ve always wished to have longer lashes so chose to get the full set of extensions with balayage (colored lashes) in a combination of violet and blue to bring out my green eyes. As the artificial ones are glued directly to your eyelash rather than your eyes, there’s no chance of any unfortunate and/or painful mishaps with the tweezers. As I relaxed on a comfy bed with my eyes closed, the technician went to work lash by lash but despite the use of tweezers and glue, I didn’t really feel anything. Apparently, lots of clients fall asleep in the chair but I was too busy wondering when I’d be able to open my eyes again as the process lasts 1 1/2 hours!  I was really happy with the result but I must admit that it took some getting used to as the extensions are very obvious (I can only dream of having lashes that long!) and the color quite bright. The lashes will fall out with my natural ones probably within 2-3 weeks at which point I can have a shorter (30 min.) touch-up at a reduced cost. The bottom line is that I’ll do it again but will probably mix some black extensions with the blue/purple to tone down the color a bit. Here’s the list of treatments along with the prices: http://www.lashbar.co.uk/pricelist.html
