The midi skirt was one of the biggest S/S12 trends but along the way a micro-trend was born, namely pleats. Of all the High Street stores, Whistles has promoted this style for the longest with its much copied “Carrie” skirt. In fact, their new season version features a beautiful flowery print that will look great with a simple white t-shirt. Other labels such as Topshop and Warehouse have produced their own styles too so you can experiment with color-blocking, metallics, and/or tribal prints without spending a fortune.
High Street Hot Buys: sequins
With the festive season upon us, there’s no better way to brighten up the cold nights than with some sequins. As they have slightly more limited wearability, however, I don’t think there’s any need to splurge on something designers. The pieces below from High Street stores look (even close up) the same as more expensive versions from designers like Ashish. One thing to keep in mind though is that the sequined part of your outfit stands out enough so keep the jewelry and make-up simple!
High Street Hot Buys: winter florals
I’m a big fan of winter florals (see my previous post on Zara’s version loved by celebrities and regular women alike: http://wp.me/p1gaON-hU) so Warehouse’s beautiful Mirrored Cherry Blossom dress immediately caught my attention. At £68, this is an absolute bargain as it’s made from 100% silk and will take you from winter parties all the way through to warmer weather. Plus, the floral design resembles the equally gorgeous print used by ready-to-wear designer Preen. The latter’s silk satin top goes for £440 on net-a-porter so while I’d love the designer version, I’m more than happy to settle for the lower-priced piece in this case!
